Yet another game... Tera online...

Never playing an grind like Aion again, sadly unless the game is really really good. Unfortunately asian games like Aion don't emphasize on any RPG element or character growth and focus primarily on grinding xp. I don't have too much faith that this game will be any different.

I'm not clear on how the PvP works in Tera, its action based combat system is a plus though.

Apparently Tera is a triple-A project and although it's asian the good news it is not from any of the f2p publishers nor NCsoft (which imo is by far the worst triple-A publisher in the history of videogaming).
Also good news, the creators of Tera are focused on getting a good acceptance on the US and EU and to do so they hired "En Masse Entertainment", a new mmo company with an experienced crew from ex-employees of Blizzard, NCsoft, Microsoft, EA and others. The sole purpose o En Masse Entertainment is to conduct the necessary changes to make Tera appealing to the "western" countries, and it isn't limited to translation of texts and voices, it means a full revamp of the game including radical changes in all mechanics. The EU/US version is consequently postponed to the end of 2011, if not after...
Despite all that I don't think Tera will appeal to most of us...
Judging from Tera's current mechanics, budget, targeted market, high budget and especially the sources of the En Masse Entertainment crew I think it's quite obvious that Tera is going for the general market, so there is no chance for a sandbox(ish) mmo, we will most likely be presented with a typical WoW clone if pve focused or maybe a WAR clone if pvp focused, or even something in between.
No matter what it turns out to be I believe its quite obvious there won't be any full loot pvp, there won't be any player driven economy, there won't be any durability decay, and most important it will undoubtedly feature a "Tier based" system of some sort

Demon boobs at that, I approve.
But, the system requirements are about the same as Crysis. Those better be some nice boob physics. It also doesn't bode well for large scale battles.

yeah well, with the boob physics it would be very hard to pvp anyways from a third person front view, since that would probably be where my camera would be locked. jump macro ftw

the more i read about this game the more impressed i am (aside form great boob physics). I registered on their forums and have been doing some digging. It sounds like something right up our ally as far as a guild is concerned, pvp centric, fps ish targeting, looks like it has a lot of depth, just from initial impressions. This one is still a ways out, not due to release until Q1 2011 but have to definitely keep an eye on it. There is a really good first impression of the game from this years GDC in San Francisco by Massively.com here:

Hmm, it says that they'll have PvP servers, the game itself doesn't seem to be PvP centric any more than WoW was for having PvP servers. That said, the gameplay looks awesome. Maybe they'll put in enough PvP to make it worth the while.
